While Lakeside Country Inn is the perfect place to simply relax and read,
swim and suntan or watch birds, there is lots you can do in the Kamloops area.

Boating on Kamloops Lake BC* Discover Kamloops Lake which is a mile wide and 18 miles long. Canoe along the shore  and experience the tranquility of the lake. We rent a row boat, canoe and paddleboats at very reasonable rates.
* Bring your fishing boat or motor boat and boat on Kamloops Lake. There is a boat launch at the Savona Lakeshore Park and you can tie your boat to our wharf during the day. Marine gas is available at the Tobiano Resort Marina located down the lake. Kamloops Lake is a great lake for water sports. California Bighorn sheep roam the northern hillsides and come down to the lake for water in the evening. If you are very fortunate you will see them silhouetted against the evening sky. Or you might spot a mother bear with her cubs. Explore the abandoned hobo shacks that dot the shore. Spend the day on the lake and enjoy your picnic lunch or a wiener roast on a secluded beach.
* Fish for Kamloops Trout, famous for its fight. Fishing licenses are available at Dey's Store located in Savona. We have some basic fishing gear for our guests' use. There are lots of small fishing lakes nearby. Tunkwa Lake and Leighton Lake are popular stocked lakes that are half an hour from the inn. If you would like to go fishing with a fishing guide, we can recommend a guide for you.
* Wander along the shoreline and collect driftwood, fused opal-agates, apple-green common opal and various shades of jasper carried down off Savona Mountain by Durand Creek. The best time to collect rocks on the shore is in April and early May before the lake level begins to rise from the spring snow melt in the mountains.
* Bike down the street on our classic cruisers to the Savona Lakeshore Park.

Mountain view of Kamloops Lake BC*Take a short drive and hike to down to the Savona Balancing Rock.  The Balancing Rock stands fifteen minutes east of Savona as a sentinel by the lake. Formed thousand of years ago the Balancing Rock, also known as Coyote Rock, has withstood the storms of time. It is visible from the highway or you may want to take the short hike down to the rock.
*Take a short drive and explore Six Mile Lake,
about fifteen minutes away. See nature at its best--silence broken only by fish splashing, blackbirds calling, frogs croaking and crickets chirping. You may see a beaver swimming or a curious ground hog perched on a rock. Try casting your fishing line from the shore.

*Pack a picnic lunch and go exploring! Here are some of the day trips that you might enjoy.

*Discover the beautiful Deadman Valley.  We will lend you a copy of a great guidebook, "Backroads Explorer," so that you don't miss any interesting stops. The gravel road is well maintained and easy to follow.  You will drive by the Skeetchestn Indian Reservation into a lush green valley and see hoodoos, caves, volcanic lava cliffs and rock bluffs with colors reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. Drop your fishing line into quiet streams and gurgling brooks. Travel past a chain of seven lakes to see spectacular Deadman Falls which fall into a narrow canyon 280 feet. The falls are most impressive during early summer. The Deadman Valley is a fascinating study of contrasts.

*Experience the history of Gold Country. Relive the Old West half an hour west at Hat Creek Ranch. Hat Creek House, a stopping place on the Gold Rush Trail, was established in 1861 and is the last remaining roadhouse of its type. Visit the B.X. Barn and a First Nations pit house. Tour the Victorian rooms in Hat Creek House, make a square-headed nail in the Blacksmith Shop or take a wagon ride down the original wagon road. The ranch has a fascinating collection of pioneer implements and artifacts.

While you are in the area, visit the historic town of Ashcroft, south of Hat Creek Ranch. Ashcroft was established as a railway town and freighting center. The Ashcroft Museum portrays life in the glory days between 1883 and 1916. Lunch or tea at Ashcroft Manor, another historic Roadhouse, is a relaxing stop.

On your return from Hat Creek Ranch, notice the sign for "Walhachin" and imagine a thriving English community in 1910, complete with fox hunts; acres of orchards green and lush, irrigated by water, gravity fed from a flume from Snohoosh Lake, 17 miles away. You can still see remains of the flume on the north side of the highway, west of Savona. When the men returned to England during World War I, the women left behind were unable to keep up the repairs to the flume. Without water, the orchards returned to desert. All that remains of the thriving settlement are remnants of the flumes and a few scraggly apple trees.

* Pan for gold or go rock hounding. The Macabee Fossil Beds, a 45 million year old lake bottom, are only fifteen minutes away and offer a unique opportunity to find plant, fish and insect fossils. Family Rock and Fossil Tours are guided by Rob Davis who has a passion for rocks and fossils. Guided tours include tours of Savona Mountain, Back Valley and the Northside of Kamloops Lake. Rob will also personally guide you to one of Kamloops' many scenic gold bearing creeks. He supplies safety gear, digging equipment and gold pans.  Discover the geologic treasures of Savona and the Kamloops area.

* Enjoy a game of golf! Kamloops offers diverse and challenging golf experiences to golfers of all abilities. The Tobiano golf course is only 10 minutes away and is getting rave reviews from our guests.  Designed by Thomas McBroom, this 18-hole championship course at Tobiano, has spectacular views of Kamloops Lake.

Other golf courses include the Aberdeen Golf Links, Mt. Paul Golf Course, Sun Rivers Golf Course, Kamloops Golf and Country Club, The Dunes, Pineridge Golf Course, Eagle Point Golf and Country Club and the Rivershore Golf Links. We're happy to help you book your tee time.
